Is your work and life balance working for you? Do you enjoy what you do? Are you allowing enough time for you? The answer to these questions can be confronting for some.
Many of us are great at work but not so great at life and vice versa. The trick is to find a balance that works for you, your work and your family commitments. With the launch of BizLife Magazine, now is a good time to re-evaluate your working life.
Biz Life Magazine is an online, quarterly magazine aimed at those who are juggling work with family. With articles on all kinds of subjects from business and finance, to health and wellbeing, it is designed to help you achieve a fulfilling, well balanced life.
The first question to ask is whether your relationship with work is as healthy as it should be, and what to do if it’s not.
Recognise the Signs
Knowing the signs of an ill balanced work life is the first step towards sorting it out. There are a range of symptoms that indicate this.
- Depression and general unhappiness
- Sleep problems
- Problems with your eyesight
- Anxiety
- Constantly feeling run down
- There are more bad days than good days
- Avoiding difficult tasks and procrastination
- Disorganised workspace
One of the most important indicators is that your efficiency is down. From the amount you input, the output is much less than it should be. You spend ages on a task, but it is not done to a high standard.
Helping yourself
So, from that list of issues, have you recognised yourself in more than one instance? What can you do? The first thing to do is to admit that you have been overworking, and you are heading towards a burnout.
Admit this to yourself, and speak up to those around you because your unhappiness may not be apparent to all. After you have told someone, you can get help. If you feel it’s serious, you can see a councillor, but there are also things you can do yourself as follows:
Work smarter
Instead of working longer, work smarter. Prioritise your workload, and don’t waste time with tasks and issues that are low priority or unproductive. If you can get the important parts done first, then that will be a weight off your mind.
Proper Breaks
Spend at least 30 minutes for your lunch and try and get out of the workspace while you are on a break. A simple, but important, rule to follow.
Health
Be proactive and make sure your body is in the best condition to be able to fight stress. Eat right and exercise. Old, but good advice – drink plenty of water, it’s good for your brain. Exercising is also good for relaxation, and this is my next point.
Reduce Stress
In your spare time, do activities that reduce stress. Other than exercise you could have a massage, take a bath, try yoga, mediate or a favourite, lock the door, close the curtains have a cup of tea and read a book.
Overall, it is worth taking action to restore your work/life balance. There will come a day when you look back on your life, so make sure that it is not full of regrets and missed appointments but filled with fun and challenging experience and success.
These issues are something many of us suffer with, but not everyone talks about. The concept of BizLife Magazine is to create a community of like-minded people who are all striving for the perfect work life balance. There will be articles on health and wellbeing, business, finance and everything in between. It will act as a one-stop shop for all your concerns and queries.
